2 months

Looking at all the pictures that have been taken is the only way I can believe that over two months have passed since Maia was born. Our life is completely different but completely amazing. It is amazing to see how she learns something new everyday and manages to teach us things at the same time.

We took Maia to her two month check-up and everything is doing well. She weighs 11 lbs 11.5 oz and is 22.5 inches long. So in two months she has gained 5 lbs 7.5 oz and grew 2.5 inches. Pretty amazing!

She also got her first shots today. Two shots in each leg - she wasn’t real happy about it but stopped crying by the time we got her into the car to go home. She looked pretty silly w/ the band-aids on her legs. She got a shot for Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis, another for Haemophilus Influenzae type b and Hepatitis B, another for Polio, and finally one for Pneumococcal Conjugate. If that list doesn’t make you feel sick than I don’t know what else will. We also did a significant amount of house work today that I’ll write about seperately.

scardy baby

Today was the first time that Maia not only was physically startled by a loud noise, but began to whine/cry differently than I’ve heard before. It happened twice tonight, once when I suddenly laughed, and another time when Sydney coughed.

Both times Maia whined for a bit before being comforted and settled down… The personality of our baby begins to appear.

$2.89

$2.89 for a gallon of gas… I can remember when milk was that much. I’m not very old either so I guess my point is it wasn’t long ago… After I filled up for our Jetta for $37.70 I watched the other vehicles passing me on the road. I tried to figure out how much they would pay and how often they would pay for their respective tanks to be full.

I then began to wonder if this was the beginning of change - the bike racks full at work. Not just poor people considering the use of public transportation. The beginning of change of our society to rely less on gasoline and more on alternatives. Then I thought - Maia needs to get bigger so she can be in a Burly.

My wandering mind came to a halt as I pulled the car into the garage and set the parking break. As I pulled Maia out of the backseat I realized that nothing would change from this. We are American’s, proud, boastful and in love - with our cars.

104,000ft, originally uploaded by arena_5.
A group of students from Oklahoma State University sent a Pentax DSLR to 104,000 ft via a sounding balloon and took pictures along the way. This pic is from the peak of the flight - look at their entire project’s pictures - it’s amazing.

Not yet

By the way, since everyone is waiting with baited breath,
No we don’t have a new baby yet, and yes we’ll make sure to let everyone know when we do.

Texas to Tel Aviv

The below article from the New Yort Times was posted on JimBurkee.com (running for 5th District of the US House) this evening and all I can say in response is ‘Hell yeah.’
I agree with everything written in this article.  There is no debate about global warming but as there is a realization that our problem [...]
