My dearest baby cousin Maia,

It grieves me to say, that i forgot to send you good tidings on your 1st birthday. But you must know that i had your name written on the palm of my hand for numerous days in a row, so that i would remember to send you a lovely birthday message. Obviously, this method was not effective. So I’ll write my birthday letter now. First off let me say that you are my FAVORITE cousin out of the bunch (don’t tell the others, especially not Sydney). Now I’m not sure if it is your little chipmunk cheeks, or your funny facial expressions, but you sure have captured everyone’s attention. I can not wait to teach you about crazy dancing, food conservation (if you know what i mean jason), and whatever else I find necessary (and appropriate) to teach you (don’t worry, i’ll wait until she is ATLEAST three before i start teaching her swear words). In short, happy year of living, we’ve all enjoyed it.

Happy Birthday to Miss Maia!

Here’s a letter a close friend wrote Maia today for her birthday, I couldn’t say it any better so I’ll let her. Of interest though, Maia had her 1 yr well exam and is 22 lbs and 29.5 inches long. She is in the 75% for her size, length and head circumference. She also got 3 shots and blood taken to test hemoglobin - not a good birthday present. It’s made her crabby all day.

I remember a little over a year ago when you were in your mommy’s tummy and she and your dad were so ready for you to come out and play! They both worked very hard helping you to come out, especially your mom who chose to cope naturally in order for you to have the best possible entrance to this world. You should be very thankful, and I know you love them and bring them joy each day so that’s enough by way of thanks. You’re going to have a great life together – your parents like to do tons of fun things, and they’re making sure you learn about the world in a fun way, and with respect and awe.

I’m looking forward to hearing all that you have to say. “Hi” and “Apple” are a great start - Saying hello to people you love, and good food – you’ve got good taste!

Please ask your parents to get you an email address so we can talk – knowing them you might already have one all reserved. Have a very happy day and we’ll see you tonight!
