Jim Crow Immigration Tests
The New York Times reports, “Legal immigrants who are eligible to become citizens must pass the civics exam as well as a test of English proficiency in reading and writing.”
I don’t know what constitution the writers of the immigration tests used, but the one on display in Washington D.C. says nothing about an official language of this country. As such, why do we test immigrants on the ability to utilize a language that is not a law?
I don’t support illegal immigration, but this country was founded upon immigration, while there need to be restricts to protect our countries health and safety they must all be law based — not fear based.
