There are surprising number of people who read my blog that we have the unfortunate inability to stay in touch with on a regular basis. For all three or four of you, I want to officially announce that Maia will be a big sister at the end of July this year.
If you were part a Shimko-Meyer Christmas or at our New Year’s Eve party you already heard this announcement so I’m sorry if I bore you. For those of you who weren’t there, we are now far enough along that Syd is starting to show and it would be unfair to only announce the birth in July…
The ultra-sound is in a couple of weeks so if there are any spectacular pictures as a result of that test we will post them on Flickr. Also, as Syd’s belly grows to amazing proportions I will post pictures against her will, so stay tuned.
BTW, we will again not be finding out the gender of our baby. Just like with Maia we want it to be a surprise. Also, if you come across any names that you think we should consider please let us know - last time we got lucky as we only had one name we liked…

The House may vote on the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Act of 2008 in the next couple of weeks. This bill will renew credits that were given to homeowners and businesses for implementing green technologies and extend funding for development of these technologies for the next three to five years. You may recall that the credits that previously existed expired at the end of last year.
Please take the time to write your representative to ask him or her to support this important bill. This bill is important to the environment, our energy independence, and our future as a country in this world.

I don’t remember snow like this since I was in high school living on Lake Superior.

A group of students from Oklahoma State University sent a Pentax DSLR to 104,000 ft via a sounding balloon and took pictures along the way. This pic is from the peak of the flight - look at their entire project’s pictures - it’s amazing.
By the way, since everyone is waiting with baited breath,
No we don’t have a new baby yet, and yes we’ll make sure to let everyone know when we do.
The below article from the New Yort Times was posted on JimBurkee.com (running for 5th District of the US House) this evening and all I can say in response is ‘Hell yeah.’
I agree with everything written in this article. There is no debate about global warming but as there is a realization that our problem [...]
