After Yahoo! Mail being updated for a couple of years now, Yahoo Calendar finally gets into the 21st century. For some time standards have been implemented which allow calendar entries to be created and shared across users of different platforms such as Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes in the corporate world. Google has supported this standard since the introduction of their calendar, but Yahoo! has lagged behind.
Today the calendar has finally been updated to fit into the new Mail
theme and Web 2.0 functionality. It will support Apple, Microsoft, AOL, Mozilla, and Google calendars making it possible to send reminders and calendar invitations to virtually anyone. In a quick test I was able to send myself an invite from my Yahoo! calendar and accept into my corporate Lotus Notes calendar. Unfortunately, I I had to manually provide my reply to Yahoo! via a web-link. My corporate e-mail sent an .ics file to my Yahoo mailbox, but there was no way to import it. Hopefully that will change in the future.
Overall, I’m impressed with several of the features including the ability to import photos from Flickr, subscribe to other .ics calendars, calendar sharing, and a ‘zoom’ option to see a single day in greater detail (see image on left) when in the month view and the sharing capabilities. To join the Beta go to http://switch.calendar.yahoo.com/ to try it out and learn more about the features and limitations of the Beta.

If you are like me you’ve watched a lot of political speaches over the past week and are uncertain which of the contradictory statements are really true. I’ve been looking at two websites a lot lately to see what information in the latest speeches are right and which aren’t that I wanted to share:

The below article from the New Yort Times was posted on JimBurkee.com (running for 5th District of the US House) this evening and all I can say in response is ‘Hell yeah.’
I agree with everything written in this article. There is no debate about global warming but as there is a realization that our problem is bigger. Our dependence on foreign oil is a national security issue, a financial issue and our current sources of energy have great negative impact beyond global warming (pollution, cancer, etc.). At this point anyone who thinks we don’t need to green-up our act not looking at the whole picture in my opinion.
“What would happen if you cross-bred J. R. Ewing of “Dallas” and Carl Pope, the head of the Sierra Club? You’d get T. Boone Pickens. What would happen if you cross-bred Henry Ford and Yitzhak Rabin? You’d get Shai Agassi. And what would happen if you put together T. Boone Pickens, the green billionaire Texas oilman now obsessed with wind power, and Shai Agassi, the Jewish Henry Ford now obsessed with making Israel the world’s leader in electric cars?
“You’d have the start of an energy revolution.”

104,000ft, originally uploaded by arena_5.
A group of students from Oklahoma State University sent a Pentax DSLR to 104,000 ft via a sounding balloon and took pictures along the way. This pic is from the peak of the flight - look at their entire project’s pictures - it’s amazing.
By the way, since everyone is waiting with baited breath,
No we don’t have a new baby yet, and yes we’ll make sure to let everyone know when we do.
